Suspect in Two State Burglary Arrested in Pineland

An investigation by the Sabine County Sheriff’s Department has resulted in the arrest of another suspect in a two state burglary ring that has seen incidents in East Texas and Western Louisiana.

Sabine County Deputy David West and Chief Deputy Tony Miller apprehended 25-year-old Luther Wood III on Daniel Lane in Pineland on Thursday morning without incident.

He is a suspect in three burglaries in Sabine County that took place in November and December 2009.

He was already wanted on two outstanding warrants in Newton County and one warrant in Jasper County for burglary.

Taken in the burglary were guns, laptops and other assorted items, said Miller.

A receipt from Popeye’s Chicken at one of the burglary’s, led law enforcement authorities to the restaurant in Jasper to review pictures on their surveillance camera.  Through an analysis of the surveillance camera and the time stamp on the receipt, authorities were able to determine that an unidentified individual driving a maroon Dodge dually pickup was likely involved in the heist.

Authorities are looking for this man and this maroon Dodge dually pickup truck that was seen at Popeye’s Chicken in Jasper.  The receipt from the restaurant was found at the scene of one of the burglaries.  If you see this truck or the person driving it, do not approach, but call your local law enforcement authority.  Photo courtesy of Sabine County Sheriff’s Department

Information provided also states that Jasper County officials are looking for a pickup similar to the one in the surveillance photo in connection with the theft of a tractor and trailer last year.

Wood remains in Sabine County jail.
