Armstrong Announces as JP Candidate

My name is Vicky Armstrong and I am seeking the Democratic Nomination for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2.

I worked for ten years for Sabine County until my retirement in 2007. First I was employed as a Dispatcher/Jailor for the Sabine County Sheriff’s office for three years and the last seven years I worked for the Adult Probation Department of the First Judicial District.

During this campaign, I am going to attempt to meet as many of the residents of Precinct 2 as possible but as you are aware, time may not allow me to meet with each individual personally but I am respectfully asking for your vote on March 2.

I pledge to you if I am elected as Justice of the Peace, I will treat each and every person who comes into my office fairly, equally, and with the utmost respect. I believe a JP should treat all people with honesty and dignity and I will listen openly and objectively to each issue presented to me before any decision or judgment is rendered.

I will also attend ALL required courses as set forth by the State of Texas to be in compliance with state regulations and guidelines.

Another issue which needs to be addressed is one concerning our youth. To many times our young people make mistakes and our current court system punishes them with fines. I realize many times when fines are imposed it is the parents/guardian who are actually being punished because they are the ones who pay the fines for their children. As YOUR JP, I will work with the other Courts in Sabine County and re-establish the “Teen Court” program. This program can be a huge asset to our community because it allows our younger offenders to be sentenced for their offenses by a jury of their peers as well as teaches our youth about how our Court system operates.

As your JP, I will work with our youth and also implement a community service program which would allow our youth to work in their individual communities instead of paying fines for simple misdemeanor offenses. I strongly believe by having our youth to work, we can teach them that there are consequences for their actions and they must learn to take responsibility for what they do.

Finally, I would like for the JP Office to more accessible to the community. As JP, I would like to implement a community action program where I would meet with the residents of Precinct 2 at our local fire departments or churches to discuss ways to improve our community, hear your concerns, and help find solutions to problems which we as residents of Precinct face. The Commissioner’s Court set the daily office hours for the JP, but I want the residents of Precinct 2 to know I am available to YOU anytime I am called upon. Remember, the Justice of the Peace is YOUR office and I am elected by you.

Once again, I am asking for your vote on March 2 and together we can work together to make a difference in our community. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 584-2590.
