An apparent suicide on Monday was confirmed by the coroner on Wednesday.
At 1:30PM on Monday, Sabine County Sheriff Department Chief Deputy Tony Miller was notified of an apparent suicide in the Gilley’s Point subdivision in the Six Mile area.
The victim’s sister from Port Neches, arrived at the home after receiving a 3:30AM phone message from her brother Bill Jack Turner, notified Miller.
According to the report, Turner left a message on his sister’s phone, saying, “I can’t breathe anymore. I’m ready to check out. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. I wish I could tell you in person. Love you. Bye.”
Upon arrival, Turner was found in a plastic chair in his garage with a fatal gunshot to the head. According to the report, he evidently had old ammunition in the five shot, .38 caliber revolver as the first two bullets failed to fire.
The 81-year-old Turner had a stroke approximately three years ago and his health had begun to fail, according to the report.
He was a veteran Army Ranger who served in Korea and active in keeping up with his old Army buddies, according to information received.
The report indicated that Turner had attempted, and failed, to take his life shortly after his stroke three years ago.
