Landowners & Leaseholders Association Meet Tuesday

The Sabine County Landowners & Leaseholders Association [SCLLA] summer meeting has been set for Tuesday, July 7 at the Courthouse in Hemphill.  The start time will be 6:00pm in the third floor District Courtroom.  The meeting is open to the public and everyone with an interest in wildlife and Sabine County is encouraged to attend.  Each person in attendance gets a free raffle ticket to be used in a drawing for pocketknives, flashlights, hats, and shirts.

The keynote presenter will be Gary Calkins, a Texas Parks and Wildlife Biologist from Jasper.  Gary will give an update on the results of the 13” horn rule that has been in effect in Sabine County deer seasons for the last three years.  The rule was designed to improve the age structure of the East Texas deer herd and to provide more bucks in the older age classes, which should give hunters a better chance at harvesting a “trophy” buck.  Gary will cover the harvest statistics for the past three years in Sabine County and in surrounding counties.

Shawn Jones is the new Federal Law Enforcement Officer working the national forest in the piney woods of East Texas, he will be at the meeting to meet area residents, and he will give an overview of his role in area law enforcement.  Shawn is now living in Sabine County and    area residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to give him a big welcome.

Local Game Wardens will also be on hand to answer any questions concerning game laws and local enforcement.
